Sen. Wicker, Republican Alderman Candidates Featured Speakers
A new community group officially allied with the Republican National Committee has formed in Lafayette County.
Entitled the “Oxford Pachyderm Club,” the group is the first chapter of the National Federation of Pachyderm Clubs in Mississippi. There are approximately 60 chapters across the country.
The club will hold its first meeting Tuesday, April 18 at the Country Club of Oxford from 11:45am to 1:00pm. Sen. Roger Wicker (R-MS) is scheduled to be the featured speaker for the inaugural event.
“I am honored to speak at the first ever meeting of the Oxford Pachyderm Club,” Sen. Roger Wicker said. “I look forward to visiting with fellow Republicans about working with President Trump to grow our economy, keep our country safe, and fight for conservative values.”
Republican Alderman candidates Jason Bailey (Ward 6) and Mark Huelse (Ward II) have also been invited to share their thoughts about infrastructure challenges in regards to Oxford’s explosive growth.
Founding members recently met and elected Russ Jones as president, Dion Kevin as treasurer, and Jackie Jones as secretary.
“I’m optimistic about this new endeavor during these critical times,” Jones said. “The Oxford Pachyderm Club will provide a platform for education, recruitment and broad citizen participation in the political process for volunteers as well as activists.”
Patterned after civic clubs, Pachyderm Clubs offer programs centered around politics and government. Pachyderm Clubs can be the continuity for the Republican Party from election to election in that unlike the party structure, Pachyderm Clubs remain active all year.
The public is welcome to the educational meetings presented by the Oxford Pachyderm Club held the third Tuesday of each month at the Country Club of Oxford. Annual dues are $60.00 per person.
